British tourists travelling to Spain warned of holiday sickness insurance SCAM.

According to the Sun newspaper, British tourists travelling to Spain have been warned of a holiday sickness insurance scam. More than 12 million British holiday makers visit Spain each year and they are being targeted by combo firms (Claims management companies) either during their holiday or soon after returning and encouraging them to make false insurance claims abut being sick in order to win a pay out.

Be aware that making a fraudulent insurance claim is illegal and a criminal offence in Spain and can incur heavy fines and possibly imprisonment.

If customers genuinely do  fall ill during their holiday they should seek medical attention as soon as possible as well as reporting it to their tour operator. Keep all records of your hospital or visits to the doctor and any payments made. Pay for any treatments by visa or by a method that will provide you with a record as you will need these if you are making a genuine claim.

If you are approached by touts, offering this kind of ¨no win no fee service¨ and you have not been ill, do NOT get involved. If they start pressurising you into making a claim or offer to handle everything for you for a fee, get the name and address of the firm offering this service and report them to the local police.

Reporting a false claim for sickness within a resort or from a hotel or wherever you might be staying, can seriously damage their reputation and you could be liable to pay 1,000´s of Euros in compensation if you are caught making a false claim.
